Police and metro police closely monitored areas in Gauteng on Wednesday after several incidents of intimidation against non-striking truck drivers.

The eight-day truck drivers strike was called off after a provisional agreement between Satawu and the road freight industry was reached.

However, Satawu members stoned a truck travelling in the Pretoria CBD on Wednesday morning.

The driver was slightly injured and caused an accident in the area.

In Tembisa on the East Rand, a group stoned a vehicle and forced it off the road.

Fourteen people were arrested for beating up the driver.

The Ekurhuleni metro police’s Mveli Nhlapo said the mob tried to set the vehicle on fire.

“The 14 people were arrested near a truck. The driver managed to escape.”
