The depot in central Tshwane was closed and city council officials received no communication from the drivers.

The city did not know why the strike action was taking place but declared it an illegal strike.

“At this point it’s very unclear as to what the reasons are. What we can confirm is that there is a strike going on, the bus drivers have downed tools but we can safely declare there is an illegal strike,” said the council’s Brenda Mpitsang.
