More job losses are expected this year, as the South African economy continues to struggle amid the recession.
According to Statistics South Africa, 267 000 jobs were lost in the second quarter of 2009.
The Bureau for Economic Research predicts Gross Domestic Product growth will shrink by two percent this year, making it the economy’s weakest performance since 1992.
The BER’s Hugo Pienaar says employment numbers will hopefully improve by next year.
“The economy will contract by two percent this year," says Pienaar.
