The Cape Peninsula University of Technology said on Wednesday it planned to rent out student dorm rooms during next year’s World Cup.
Like schools, CPUT will also go on an extended break during the 2010 tournament.
The university’s three campuses are situated in the Cape Town CBD, in Bellville and Wellington in the Boland.
CPUT’s Robert Woodward said while around 6 000 students lived in student residences, not all those rooms would be rented out to soccer fans.
“We are hiring out about half of the beds at this stage, which means that we still have space for students who want to stay for whatever reason. We are trying to give some assurances to students at this stage that they will get first consideration,” said Woodward.
