Cape Town rescue officials were left speechless after an American tourist only sustained moderate injuries after being hit by a train.

The incident occurred at the Lynedock railway crossing in Stellenbosh.

The 20-year old University of Cape Town student was cycling over the railway crossing at the time of the incident.

ER24’s Tristan Wadely said the student was in shock.

“ER24 and the Stellenbosch Fire Department were the first to arrive on the scene. The emergency crew was amazed to find the lady sustained only moderate injuries. The patient was taken to Stellenbosch Medi-Clinic for further treatment,” he said.
