Calm was restored on Wednesday to the Tshwane South College after demonstrating students set fire to a lecture room. This is the second day of protests at the Atteridgeville campus.
Three students have been arrested for public violence.
On Tuesday, members of staff locked themselves in the institution’s buildings when hundreds of students went on the rampage over a lack of textbooks among other things.
The fire was doused and students ended their protests.
Several classrooms were vandalised and the entire campus was trashed when students demonstrated for a second day against lack of text books and other learning material.
The fire brigade had to cut open the gates after the students had locked it.
It is understood a meeting between student representatives and college management, which was scheduled for Wednesday morning, did not go ahead which sparked the latest round of protests.
