ANC spokesperson Jackson Mthembu has been released from police custody.
He was arrested by members of the ghost squad on the N2 on Thursday morning for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
Mthembu was his jovial self as he left the Mowbray Police Station and greeted the media with friendly handshakes and a broad smile.
He said he spent two hours at the station after being caught.
Mthembu sported bloodshot eyes as he joked about his treatment by officials at the police station.
He added it was up to the courts and ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe to decide his fate.
He was released on R500 bail and will make his first court appearance in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court at the end of March.
