The Gauteng government plans to ensure pedestrians are safe on the now infamous Mdlalose Road in Soweto.

Infrastructure Development MEC Faith Mazibuko on Tuesday said pedestrian paths and barriers will be built on the road.

Earlier this year, four school pupils were killed and two others seriously injured when Hip Hop artist Molemo "Jub Jub" Maarohanye and Themba Tshabalala crashed into them while they were walking home.

Mazibuko’s spokesperson Kabelo Thabethe said there would be community-based projects in prioritised areas.

“These are all the plans that will be implemented this financial year and some of them have already started,” said Thabethe.
