Hundreds of Johannesburg residents had their first ride on the Gautrain on Tuesday morning.

The train has been operating between Sandton and O.R. Tambo International Airport since 5:30am when it was officially opened to the public.

Passengers need to purchase a Gautrain Gold Card and load money onto it in order to access both the train and its associated bus services.

The first time passengers said it was an exciting experience and commended the city for the accomplishment.

Some said the only hiccup was getting the Gold Card in the beginning.
