It is the second day of operations for the brand new Gautrain between Sandton and OR Tambo International Airport.

Hundreds of Johannesburg residents used the rapid railway link for the first time on Tuesday, when it officially opened.

Gautrain officials said operations were running smoothly and they are expecting more people to start using the service.

There are Gautrain officials at every station helping first time passengers get their tickets to board the train.

Commuters need a Gautrain gold card which can be loaded with money to pay for a trip to the airport or use any of the bus services.

Travelling at 160 kilometres per hour, it takes about 12 minutes to get from Sandton to the airport.

Officials said the first day was a success and they expect the Gautrain to continue operating smoothly, transporting passengers in a quick and efficient way.
