How to stay warm - Cape style

Many Capetonians are battling to fend off the cold, as the Cape continues to suffer its chilliest snap this winter.

Some Mitchells Plain residents said the icy weather was some of the coldest they have experienced in years.

Many believe dressing like an "onion" and throwing on layers of clothes is the wisest way to ensure their body temperatures do not drop.

Some people said they wished they could stay home because the thought of having to go to work left them feeling miserable.

Many residents also said they would spend the public holiday under covers.

The weather "experts" suggested drinking coffee and other hot beverages, as well as eating soup to stay warm.

One woman said keeping the heater on for an hour or more was a luxury she could not afford because of the high cost of electricity.

Several areas in the Western Cape have been covered in snow this week.
