Speculation about the size of the soccer World Cup windfall continued on Tuesday as the South African Football Association would not confirm the exact amount received from FIFA.

On Tuesday, the soccer body explained to Parliament how it would use most of the money on youth development but the exact total of funds remains a mystery.

Safa Vice President Mwelo Nonkonyana has, however, denied that it is around R1 billion.

“Before [FIFA President] Sepp Blatter left we had a meeting with him and [General Secretary] Jerome Valcke and they [said it would take] four to six weeks [to] reconcile all the books and come back to us and inform us how much profit has been made,” said Nonkonyana.

In a snap poll by Eyewitness News some people said any money Safa received from FIFA after the should benefit the people of South Africa.

They said the money should be spent on those who need it most.

“There should be accountability; this is not Safa’s money it belongs to the people of South Africa,” said one person.

Meanwhile, Safa CEO Leslie Sedibe said Bafana Bafana’s next match against Ghana will open their anti-xenophobia campaign.
