Self-confessed hitman Mikey Schultz testified on Monday how mining magnate Brett Kebble wanted to be remembered as a martyr and not as a thief.
Glenn Agliotti is currently on trial for the murder at the South Gauteng High Court. He has pleaded not guilty.
Schultz gave a gripping testimony about how he shot Kebble in Melrose in September 2005 in what is believed to be an assisted suicide.
He recounted how security man Clinton Nassif told him Kebble wanted to die because he had stolen a lot of money and was about to go to jail for a very long time.
An initial attempt to kill Kebble the previous night was also scuppered when the car he was travelling in overheated.
He described how, on the fourth attempt, he pointed the gun at a disappointed-looking Kebble and pulled the trigger several times.
