Ministers to face fines for breaching ethics code
Chantall Presence | 2010/07/27 07:20:32 PM

Cabinet on Tuesday approved interim sanctions against members of the executive who breach the ethics code.

The measures are in response to a public protector’s report which found President Jacob Zuma had breached the code when he declared his assets and interests months after the cut-off date.

Ministers and deputy ministers, including the President and his deputy Kgalema Motlanthe, may have their salaries docked for missing the deadline.

The measure will be in place while Justice Minister Jeff Radebe leads a review of the Ethics Code to address gaps.

These include confusion over who should act against the president, should he breach the code.
