Public Service and Administration Minister Richard Baloyi said on Friday he is confident unions will accept the government’s latest offer.
He said government is offering a 6.5 percent salary increase, among other increased benefits.
Baloyi said the total amounts to 8.5 percent which is above inflation.
“We have a budget of R23.5 billion which is based on an inflation projection rate of the time of 5.2 [percent]. At the moment inflation as of the day before yesterday (Thursday) was at 4.2 [percent],” he said.
Dozens of government employees are made their way to the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Friday.
The march is part of a two-day strike by civil servants.
The workers are demanding an 8.6 percent wage increase and a R1000 housing allowance.
Union officials were expecting around 1000 state employees to strike but only roughly 100 have turned up.
The marching workers are from the Home Affairs, Justice, Education, Health department and general safety and security sectors.
The marchers made their way to the Union Buildings where a memorandum was handed over to the office of Minister Baloyi.
