Dramatic details about hip hop star Jub Jub and Themba Tshabalala’s deadly car accident are expected to be revealed when their trial begins in October.

Jub Jub, whose real name is Molemo Maarohanye, and Tshabalala are facing murder charges in the Protea Magistrate’s Court.

They are also accused of being reckless and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The two were charged after crashing into a crowd of school children in Soweto in March, killing four and seriously injuring two others.

The trial date was announced during Maarohanye and Tshabalala’s brief court appearance on Friday. Five days have been earmarked for the case in October.

Before proceedings started, relatives of the accident victims were called out of the court room to consult with the prosecuting team.

Their spokesperson Thabo Mpesi told reporters that for some of the bereaved families the accident was still fresh in their minds.

“Some families are finding it very difficult to recover,” he said.

Mpesi is also part of an initiative started by the victims’ families to spread awareness about road safety.

He said a memorial walk is being organised in recognition of those who died in road accidents.
