"We have an arrangement with SAA whereby their crew, including pilots, are processed through [a] crew centre that is situated at Airways Park"

The Airports Company South Africa has distanced itself from the arrest of 15 South African Airways crew for drug smuggling.

The crew was detained at Heathrow Airport on Tuesday after dagga and cocaine worth several million rand was found in luggage believed to be theirs

British authorities released the crew members on bail without charging them on Wednesday.

Authorities in the United Kingdom have ruled out passenger involvement.

ACSA said that it would not conduct an investigation into the incident as SAA has a separate crew centre with it’s own screening area at Oliver Tambo Airport.

“We have an arrangement with SAA whereby their crew, including pilots, are processed through [a] crew centre that is situated at Airways Park,” said ACSA’s Solomon Makgale.
