President Jacob Zuma delivered his maiden State of the Nation Address to a joint sitting of the newly-constituted Parliament on Wednesday 3 June, to the theme ‘Parliament entrenching people-centred democracy in achieving development goals.’
President Zuma’s address is on the back of a global economic slowdown, mounting pressure from the labour unions and protests from South Africans unhappy with service delivery.
The State of the Nation Address is a full ceremonial key event on the South African Parliamentary and political calendar. The occasion is a celebration of our nation with public participation adding to the State’s ceremonial activities. The Executive, the Judiciary and the Legislature play out their constitutional roles in full view of the nation.
