Basic Education system is ‘fragile’ ahead of 2024 – Minister Angie Motshekga
The Department of Basic Education is ushering in the 2024 academic year, but there are issues that need to be dealt with.

There have been over 900 reports of cheating as the results from last year have been released.
In addition to this, there is much controversy around the Basic Education Laws Amendment Bill (BELA).
These, the 2024 elections, and more are issues that the Department will have to deal with this year.
Motshekga says that one of the most significant challenges the system faces is that it relies heavily on external support.
“On its own it is fragile… I wish to have a system that can run and maintain itself.”

However, she says that the system is stabilising which will make it easier to improve the areas that need to be addressed.
