JOHANNESBURG - Load shedding was ramped up to stage three on Tuesday afternoon as Eskom took some generating units offline for maintenance.
The utility said that four units were taken offline, resulting in the need to implement a higher stage of rolling power cuts.
The country has been on stage two since Monday.
Stage two will then be implemented from 5am on Thursday morning.
Spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena, said that this pattern would continue until Saturday.
"Eskom will closely monitor the power system and communicate should any significant changes occur. Unplanned outages are currently at 14,894MW of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 8,336MW."
