JOHANNESBURG - Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen said he would lodge a complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) to investigate what the party says is eThekwini municipality's violation of the right to access to water in the metro.
Steenhuisen was speaking outside Durban's City Hall on Saturday morning during the party's picket to dissolve the municipality's council.
The DA also kicked off its election campaign in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
The party said there is a water crisis in the City of eThekwini that the metro's council has failed to address.

Since the ANC-EFF coalition of corruption took hold of eThekwini in 2021, residents have suffered the collapse of governance, failing infrastructure, water, and rolling blackouts. pic.twitter.com/un5xpUNrCF
Some parts of KZN have been dealing with water challenges that have left residents with dry taps over the festive season.
This has been exacerbated by water infrastructure that was damaged as a result of the January floods.
Steenhuisen said some of the city's beaches have been closed to the public due to poor water quality.
He said dissolving the council would help put government officials in power who can address these challenges.
