Gugs Mhlungu spoke to Clinical Psychologist, Dr Khosi Jiyane.

Listen to their conversation in the audio clip below.

Getting older is a natural part of life that happens to everyone, no matter if they welcome it or not.

However, have you ever heard the saying that life begins at 40? This phrase suggests that when you reach this age, you may develop a new appreciation for life.

According to Jiyane, 40 is the age of individuation - the point where you become more unique in a world full of others.

Our decades of life serve as important milestones in our development, says Jiyane.

Jiyane also points out that our perspective on life changes as we age and experience different stages.

Ultimately, Jiyane believes that age is just a number and one's attitude towards life determines how young or old you feel.

"Forty is regarded as an important milestone, which is the culmination of the first three milestones through which we were dependent infants and then our world expanded from our nuclear family to a broader social context."
