By-elections: DA triumphs in Ladybrand, ANC strong in Bushbuckridge, Zuma's MK Party hits ballots

In the inaugural phase of this national election year, the DA secured its position in Ladybrand, Free State. 

In Ladybrand, a pivotal crossroads to Maseru, Lesotho, the DA claimed victory with 59%, ANC with 38%, and EFF with 3%.

Although they didn't win by a big margin, Sussman says that it's a 'fair' result.

Shifting focus to Bushbuckridge, the second-most populous municipality in Mpumalanga, the ruling party achieved a substantial win in this ward: ANC at 67% and EFF at 32%, indicating a robust performance.

Sussman reveals that in the upcoming by-elections in KwaZulu-Natal, Jacob Zuma's contentious newly established uMkhonto Wesizwe party will be on the ballot.

"This is what we want to focus on; can political parties build up not just a trend of results, but a trend of showing they can get their supporters to the poll."
