DURBAN - Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema is set to address a commemoration event for late Durban University of Technology (DUT) student Mlungisi Madonsela who was shot by a security guard at the institution.
The fatal shooting happened during a protest in 2019, where students were demonstrating over fees, accommodation and other National Student Financial Aid Scheme-related issues.
At the time, he was a final year student towards a public administration degree.
Monday marked exactly five years since his death.
He was shot with live ammunition by a security belonging to Excellent Security company officer - during a scuffle that broke out outside the Steve Biko campus.
He later died in hospital.
EFF leader Julius Malema is set to be the keynote speaker at the anniversary and commemoration of the student who was also part of the EFF Student Command.
