JOHANNESBURG - The South African Weather Service (SAWS) said the mercury will finally drop on Friday after a week of sweltering heat in parts of the country.

Earlier this week, the national weather service issued a heatwave warning.

This would see scorching weather gripping parts of the Gauteng province with temperatures in some areas reaching highs of 38 degrees.

Meanwhile, areas like Soshanguve in the City of Tshwane remain without drinking water and Joburg CBD residents are also left waterless due to a water pump station going offline.

SAWS forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela explained the weather outlook for the rest of the week.

"The heatwave is expected to last up until today, which is a Thursday, and tomorrow we see a bit of cooling in terms of moving from warm conditions over Gauteng, especially so we have scattered to isolated showers tomorrow..."
