JOHANNESBURG - An 18-year-old man is expected to appear in the Lenasia Magistrates Court for allegedly stabbing a pupil to death.
The grade 10 pupil was arrested on Thursday after he attacked a grade 8 learner from Oakdale Secondary School in Ennerdale.
Its alleged that a fight broke out among pupils on Wednesday before school.
The suspect is facing a charge of murder.
The community of Ennerdale is mourning the death of grade 8 pupil, Siyanda Malinga, who was stabbed to death by the 18-year-old at Oakdale Secondary School.
In the midst of their grief, there's a tangible frustration aimed at both the school's administration and the education department for their failure to effectively address the grave issue of bullying.
Despite reports from the department that the incident was caused by gangsterism, residents have told Eyewitness News that 15-year-old Malinga was harassed by the grade 10 pupil for refusing to give him R5.
It’s understood that the alleged bullies recruited other learners who then ambushed Malinga outside the school's entrance as he got off a bus.
A grade 10 pupil was also wounded and is currently in hospital.
