WC police nab two more suspects over Old Crossroads' triple murder

CAPE TOWN - Western Cape police arrested two more suspects in connection with a triple murder incident at Old Crossroads in May 2023.
The suspects, between the ages of 30 and 35 are also alleged to have shot dead an off-duty law enforcement officer during the shooting at Sonwabile Drive.
According to the police reports, the suspects were nabbed at separate locations on Friday.
"On Friday, police acted on information received from crime intelligence that one of the outstanding suspects was at a medical facility in Crossroads. They acted on the information and found the suspect who was then apprehended. Further investigation led the team to a residence in Mitchells Plain where another suspect was found," said provincial police spokesperson, Andre Traut.
Meanwhile, the Khayelitsha Priority Crimes Court sentenced 44-year-old, Denzil October to 30 years imprisonment for the murder of a police officer.
October was sentenced on Friday after he shot and killed an on-duty Constable Ashwin Pedro while conducting patrols with his colleague in Grassy Park two years ago.
The incident happened when the two officers received a tip-off from a member of the public that the 44-year-old offender was carrying a firearm.
He was convicted on charges including robbery, murder, attempted murder, and illegal possession of a firearm.
"He was sentenced to a total of 60 years imprisonment for all the charges, but the court ordered the sentences to run concurrently with the 30-year imprisonment for the murder. The court declared him unfit to possess a firearm" said National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila.
