JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng welcomed a decision from its mother body to review the party's coalitions in local governments, saying it was a long overdue intervention.

In Gauteng, the ANC is in multiparty coalition governments in Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, and Mogale City.

Despite these coalitions having been in existence for less than a year, serious cracks started appearing between the ANC and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

Speaking on the sidelines of the Gauteng ANC lekgotla in Boksburg, the party's provincial chairperson, Panyaza Lesufi, said the coalitions have not been successful.

“Some of the political parties that claim to work in this government of local unity, they have exposed their inexperience of running government, they have exposed themselves that they are not in government to serve the people, and they have exposed themselves that they can't be trusted to run government.”
