Welcome to Travel Tuesday!

This week, Tarryn Tomlinson shares accessible insights about living like a local and exploring like a tourist.

What's living like a local tourist all about?

"Living like a local while exploring like a tourist is all about rediscovering the beauty and charm of your city." Tarryn Tomlinson

Tomlinson's tips to live like a local tourist include...

1) Embrace your city

Embrace the rhythm of your city!

Head to the neighbourhood markets and indulge in some local delicacies, chat with the friendly vendors.

Maybe it's that corner café you've never visited? Or the family-run bakery with a secret koeksister recipe?

2) Explore with new

Take a stroll through Cape Town - look up at those architectural marvels you may have overlooked.

Pretend you're a tourist on a mission to capture the essence of your city through your lens.

Snap pictures of the iconic landmarks and discover the stories behind them.

3) Book a guided city tour

Yes, the kind tourists love! It's amazing how much you can learn about your own city on the hop on and hop off city sightseeing tour bus.

You might hear tales you've never heard, or go down alleys you've never noticed. It's a whole new perspective and a great way to educate yourself and your children on our local history, geography and culture.

4) Find the rhythm

Remember those touristy brochures you usually ignore? Pick one up!

Check out the events happening in your city this weekend. Whether it's a festival, a concert, or an art exhibition, be a tourist in your own town. You might just discover a vibrant side you never knew existed.

The Amphitheater at the V&A Waterfront is bustling with summer entertainment and concerts, all for free!

For those who love art or who want to grow their appreciation of art, put on your walking shoes, get your partner off the couch and visit the many galleries whose doors are open on the first Thursday of every month.

Many offer complimentary glasses of wine or something to nibble on, it also offers you a safe and great way to explore the city in the evening.

Mostly, just have fun and discover something new!
