JOHANNESBURG - Motorists who were robbed by armed suspected illegal miners on the M1 North have been urged to report the incident to police.

Motorists were attacked during morning peak traffic near the Crown Interchange on Tuesday.

It's understood drivers were robbed at gunpoint by criminals, who then fled on foot to a nearby mining shaft.

JPMD's Xolani Fihla: "We urge the victims involved in the incident to immediately report it and open a criminal case at the police station against the culprits for the police to investigate the matter."

JMPD said it would continue to monitor the area to search and trace the suspects.
