JOHANNESBURG - Police union POPCRU said it feels vindicated following the closure of the police headquarters in Pretoria.

The SAPS Telkom Towers building was shut down by inspectors from the labour department this week citing multiple health and safety hazards.

The building accommodates officers that provide administrative support within the police service.

POPCRU said it has been flagging the issue since 2021.

Meanwhile, SAPS stated that it is moving the affected staff to alternative offices.

Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said "The SAPS is in continuous engagements with the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure who is responsible for the repair and maintenance of state facilities. Core policing has not been affected by this temporary closure."
