WATCH: Shabnim Ismail makes HER-story as fastest bowler in Cricket Premier League
The South African quick, Shabnim Ismail broke records in the Women's Premier League (WPL) for becoming the fastest bowler
John Maytham speaks to Sports Scientist, Ross Tucker about the significance of the fastest delivery in women's cricket by Mumbai Indians' Shabnim Ismail from Delhi in the Cricket Women's Premier League (WPL).
South African quick, Shabnim Ismail has breached the 130 kilometers per hour (k/ph) barrier for the first time in women's cricket since speeds have been recorded.
Ismail bowled a delivery that the speed-gun on broadcast recorded at 132.1 kilometers per hour (k/ph) in the WPL game between her side Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals on Tuesday, 5 March in Delhi.
Tucker says this is a historic moment for women's cricket and South Africa.
"132.1 kilometers an hour slower than the fastest bowl ever bowled by a man at 161.3 kilometers an hour, setting a historic new record in Cricket Premier League. If you look at the world's record's for women's sporting events, women's throwing events are considerably lower than the men's."
