Pippa Hudson interviews Werner Voigt, Curator of Kirstenbosch Gardens.
The closure of Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens' Garden Centre, as its owner retires after 20 years, has left regular visitors dismayed.
Trish Hutton-Squire's retirement marks the end of an era, with March 28 as the final day of operation.
Despite an ongoing tender process for the space, a seamless transition is unlikely, leading to a month-long period of closure.
Voigt explains that regardless of an earlier appointment, this downtime would still have occurred.
Applications closed recently, and they are currently reviewing submissions.
While it's a bittersweet moment, Voigt sees it as an opportunity for fresh innovation and creativity.
