JOHANNESBURG - The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) political party says the African National Congress (ANC) wants to destroy the party because it is threatened by it.
On Tuesday, the MK Party won the first round of its court battle with the governing party when the Electoral Court dismissed the ANC's application for MK to be deregistered.
On Wednesday, both parties will face off again at the Durban High Court as the ANC will be arguing that the "uMkhonto weSizwe" trademark belongs to it.
uMkhonto weSizwe supporters were in high spirits outside the Johannesburg High Court, where Tuesday’s ruling was made.
A few ANC supporters were spotted outside court but quickly disappeared after the court judgment.
“This victory says to the whole world that MK has always done things correctly, it’s only the ANC that has a problem,” said Jabulani Khumalo, founder of uMkhonto WeSizwe political party. TCG pic.twitter.com/qYXkQyQHG2

MK Party founder, Jabulani Khumalo, said that Tuesday’s victory would reinvigorate the organisation’s support base.
"This victory says to the whole world that MK has always done things correctly, it’s only the ANC that has a problem. We have no problem with the laws because when the government says we must do this, we do it to the core."
Meanwhile, at Luthuli House, the ANC has cancelled a planned media briefing which was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
