The 44-year-old Faye will be the youngest president in Africa.

Senegal's former Prime Minister Amadou Ba conceded defeat to the former tax official on Monday.

Less than two weeks before the elections, Faye was arrested and jailed for contempt of court and defaming magistrates.

He was released on 14 March, ten days before the polls.

To the relief of the region, the elections were peaceful after several months of delays.

“Senegal seems to back on the road of being a stable country.”
