For decades, the multi-disciplinary team at Bellavista School in Johannesburg has supported and empowered hundreds of students with learning difficulties to reach their full potential.
Known for its innovative approach to remedial education, Bellavista School recently launched Bellavista iThemba, a pioneering outreach programme.
This initiative, the first of its kind, aims to enhance cognitive function in both children and adults, improving learning outcomes and daily life skills such as memory, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence.
Central to their approach is the belief that all individuals possess innate learning abilities.
They integrate theories of Structural Cognitive Modifiability and Mediated Learning Experience with programmes like Cognitive Enrichment Advantage (CEA) and Feuerstein’s Instrumental Enrichment (FIE).
By leveraging these methodologies, the programme seeks to develop various skills including focus, literacy, social interaction, reasoning, and organisational competence, among others.
Ultimately, Bellavista iThemba strives to foster competence, leadership, and goal-setting capabilities in its participants.
