Clarence Ford speaks to Barbara Friedman about this and other stories trending online.
Listen to the interview in the audio below.
Phabeni was rescued in November last year after being separated from his herd.
The elephant calf wandered into the yard of a woman living near the Kruger Park, starving and dehydrated.
The woman was determined to save him and contacted HERD, who sprung into action.
Phabeni has caught public attention, as people have become so invested in his rescue story and the people who saved him.
“The guys that work at HERD just adore these elephants so much.”

The baby elephant has started walking with his new herd at their sanctuary, and has been adopted by one of the older elephants.
