If you follow cricket closely, you're likely familiar with the rising star Kwena Maphaka.

At just 17 years old, this South African cricketer has already achieved remarkable feats, such as making his debut for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.

While many of his peers are diligently working towards completing their high school education and mapping out their plans, Maphaka finds himself balancing the demands of matric with the intense spotlight of professional cricket, a testament to his remarkable talent and unwavering determination.

Despite facing challenges during his IPL debut, fans have rallied behind him, recognising his immense potential and eagerly supporting his journey in the sport. The IPL also rate him highly, Vice says.

Lester Kiewit questions the IPL's suitability as a breeding ground for future South African bowling talent.

While Vice concurs that it may not be the optimal avenue, he underscores the financial constraints of national boards in competing with the wealthy IPL.

Cricketers can earn one hundred times more for a few weeks in the IPL than they can in a year playing national cricket for their country, explains Vice, so it is hard to resist.

Consequently, Mphaka stands to earn considerably more through his IPL involvement.

"The guy turns 18 on Monday and he's trying to get through matric, so he deserves a bit of a break."
