Robert Marawa catches up with Mamelodi Sundowns defender, Mothobi Mvala.
Listen to the discussion below.
His name resonates with the world of South African football due to his passion, enthusiasm, and unbelievable skill.
Born in the small town of Theunissen in the Free State, Mvala’s professional career kicked off in 2014 at the age of 19, when he made his move to Highlands Park FC.
In September 2020, his career soared to new heights when he made the bold move to join top team Mamelodi Sundowns.
“It’s an honour and privilege for me to wear this jersey. It comes with a lot of pressure and expectations but I am just happy. For the player that I am now that has been a lot of improvement from when I was at Highlands Park to where I am now.”

“It is always nice to have a coach that believes in you. Coach Hugo [Broos] believes in everyone that he chooses and I am happy that I am one of those players.”

He recalls Bafana Bafana’s Afcon qualifier against Liberia.
While the team was leading 2–0 at half-time, Broos encouraged them to not get comfortable in their complacency.
“When we lead 2–0 we think that we are over them [and] we are now keeping the ball. At half time he [coach] said to us ‘if you keep doing that, they will come back’ and that happened. That was the first time I saw coach Hugo angry.”
