More than 100 people have perished in this deadly heatwave, which has blanketed Mali for more than a month.
According to reports, most of the patients succumbing to heat-related ailments were the elderly aged over 60, who had been suffering from chronic illnesses.
Malian meteorologists reported that last Thursday, the southwestern city of Kayes registered a temperature of 48.5°C, marking the hottest April day ever recorded in African history.
Authorities have advised residents to seek shelter in well-ventilated areas, and have shortened school hours.
"Global warming is something we should be doing something about now."
