JOHANNESBURG - Zondo Commission advocate, Pule Seleka, has been appointed to lead a team investigating the City of Johannesburg's Group Forensics and Investigating Services (GFIS) department.
The metro's Council Speaker Margaret Arnolds made this announcement during a media briefing in Braamfontein on Sunday.
The city established this team after members of its internal investigating unit were suspended last year.
The City of Johannesburg said this specialised task team was established to help improve the work of its internal investigating unit and rid the department of things that have tainted its reputation.
Last year, a report found that there were irregularities with some of the investigations conducted by its forensics and investigations department.
Council Speaker Arnolds has spoken highly of this probe, saying other municipalities had made use of such committees.
Advocate Seleka was part of the Zondo Commission that was established to look into allegations of state capture in 2018.
The city said it was confident that the appointed committee comprising of Seleka and four others would get to the bottom of the allegations made.
