Organisers of a Beijing half-marathon are being investigated after three African runners appeared to let a Chinese athlete win.
In viral video footage, the three race leaders – Dejene Hailu Bikila (Ethiopia), Robert Keter (Kenya) and Willy Mnangat (Kenya) – seem to slow down to let He Jie run ahead of them.
Watch the marathon finish below:
Jie went on to win the half-marathon in a time of 1:03:44, just one second behind the African trio.
“He Jie is sponsored by a sports brand that also sponsored the event. So, did something unsporting happen? Was it a coincidence? Or was it just a kind gesture for the home athlete to win his home race?”
