Lester Kiewit interviews Mike Finch, Editor of Runner’s World.
Listen below.
A video circulating on social media shows Two Oceans Marathon participants being cut off at 10:46, four minutes before the scheduled time of 10:50.
According to Two Oceans Marathon regulations, failure to reach the cut-off point within the specified time results in retirement from the race and removal from the course, with no option to continue.
Non-compliance with race officials may lead to disciplinary measures, potentially including being banned from participating in future races.
Finch remarks that, although only a small portion of runners were affected, they represent the essence of ultra-distance running.
He notes a similar incident at the 2023 Comrades Marathon, suggesting ongoing confusion regarding cut-off times.
