Johannesburg Mayor, Kabelo Gwamanda, was informed of an attempt to arrest the City Manager, Floyd Brink.

This is with regards to a matter involving a resident and a disputed utility account.

The sheriff of the Gauteng High Court arrived outside Brinks home to effect a 30-day arrest warrant.

However, Brink remains free.

Mlimandlela Ndamase, spokesperson for Johannesburg Mayor, says the reports that the resident’s power had been shut off were wrong, so the sheriff should not have tried to arrest Brink.

“There was no official disconnection of the resident by the City yesterday… the sheriff presented himself today erroneously so.”
- Mlimandlela Ndamase, Spokesperson for Johannesburg Mayor

Ndamase says this attempted arrest was ‘an abuse of legal processes’ and was ‘politically motivated.’

“There have been numerous attempts to abuse and embarrass the City Manager.”
