Saturday provided a quintessential display of Cape Town's fluctuating weather patterns, transitioning from sunny skies to a sudden onslaught of lightning and thunder.

Consequently, firefighters swiftly mobilised to tackle fires in several of Cape Town's mountains.

Incidents were reported at Cecilia Forest, Silvermine, and along the Cape of Good Hope Main Road, which authorities have managed to contain.

Hotspots are concentrated behind Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, with helicopters on standby.

The risk remains and hikers must avoid the area.

"We're putting in all the effort to mitigate the risk."
