United Democratic Movement (UDM) President Bantu Holomisa is the party's candidate for Eastern Cape (EC) Premier.

He says various individuals and groups, including traditional leaders, religious groups, civil society organisations, and individuals urged him to consider his candidacy.

Kiewit speculates whether this move is linked to a potential coalition agreement.

However, Breakfast doubts this, pointing out that the Eastern Cape, being predominantly rural, typically favours liberation movements due to traditional leaders' allegiance to such movements.

Despite a general decline in ANC support, Breakfast believes the party still has strong prospects in the EC and does not view the UDM as a significant threat.
