The original King of the Pride Lands is finally getting an origin story.

Disney has released the teaser trailer to ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’, the first look into the prequel to the 2019 blockbuster live-action, ‘Lion King’.

Directed by Barry Jenkins, the film will follow Simba as the King of the Pride Lands while exploring the origins of his late father, Mufasa.

Mufasa is voiced by Aaron Pierce and brother Scar by Kelvin Harrison Jr.

Beyoncé will reprise her role as Nala while her daughter Blue Ivy (12) makes her debut as Kiara, the daughter of King Simba (voiced by Donal Glover) and Queen Nala.

South Africa’s John Kani will return as the voice of Rafiki, who narrates Mufasa’s story to Kiara.

The original ‘Lion King’ (1994) was one of Disney’s most successful properties, grossing $960 million.

The 2019 version grossed $1.6 billion at the global box office.

‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ will be released in theatres on 20 December 2024.
