The white-Afrikaner separatist town of Orania is moving off the grid with the help of a giant battery and solar panels.
The town has received a delivery of a massive lithium-ion battery that will help it avoid six stages of loadshedding.

The solar/battery combination by Orasol will supply free electricity to the town from about 6 am to about 10 pm.

The town, located in the Northern Cape, has rejected the multiculturalism of democratic South Africa, and aims to become a fully self-sufficient.
Orania, founded in 1991, requires its members to be white-Afrikaans and Christian.
