Rugby 7s: Blitzboks win Spain (31-7), Springbok Women's Sevens beat USA (14-12)

Africa Melane speaks to Jan de Koning, Editor at Rugby365.

South Africa's men's and women's teams are currently competing in the Rugby Sevens Series in Singapore.

Both teams are doing well, making powerful moves and need to keep it that way, says de Koning.

The Blitzbokke who were drawn in Pool B played against Spain in Singapore, winning 31-7.

They will go on to face Samoa at 13h18 in their second pool game and France on Saturday morning, 04 May, in their third game.

De Koning says it's important for the Blitzboks to keep up this momentum 'for the long game' so they make it to the quarter and semi finals.

"They're basically safe for the top eight and final but atleast they can improve their position on the standings and be a bit better when they go into the finals".
- Jan de Koning, Editor - Rugby365
"The reality is that if we do well here, we go with confidence into the final and we can actually win a title... and finish strong after a really bad season".
- Jan de Koning, Editor - Rugby365

Meanwhile, the Springbok Women's Sevens team had their first game and won the USA team - 'one of the powerhouse teams in women's rugby' with a final score of 14-12, scoring a try in the last minute.

The team will go on to play France and Japan for the remainder of the pool games.

De Koning says the Springbok Women's Sevens team go in as 'underdogs' but can use that to their advantage.

"Like they were against America, they will be underdogs but atleast now they'll have some belief that they can dance on the big stage".
