Family and friends of renowned author and former PAC President, Motshoko Pheko pay their last respects to the struggle stalwart.

JOHANNESBURG - The children of late struggle stalwart, Motsoko Pheko recalled some of their fondest memories of their father.

The former Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) leader who died last month, at the age of 93 was laid to rest at a private burial ceremony on Saturday.
 
Speaking at his funeral service in Johannesburg, Pheko’s family said despite his commitment to fighting oppression, the struggle icon and renowned author always made time for his children.

His daughter, Mamello Pheko described her father as a loving, funny and respectful man, who passionately loved helping people.
 
“Papa was extraordinary. Given how he shared his time with so many people, I never felt or experienced a moment when he didn't have time for me.”
 
Hundreds of PAC supporters also honoured the struggle stalwart.
 
Paying tribute to the late leader and echoing sentiments shared at the service, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said he would be remembered as a man who cared about the liberation of oppressed South Africans.

“We bow before you as the Gauteng government with a gesture of a special provincial official funeral to demonstrate how hurt but how proud we are that this son of the soil, scholar, leader, lawyer was indeed a person that can’t go quietly without the honour of the government."
